Opinion Line Extra (Sept. 24)

Does politics make people stupid, or do only stupid people get into politics? Or maybe it is some of both.

There are very few countries remaining with income equality. One notable exception is Cuba. Maybe that’s why the president established diplomatic ties with it recently. Obama wants Americans to keep up with the Cubans.

What do you know – small-government Scott Walker’s campaign collapsed from its own bloated bureaucratic weight. I guess he forgot that what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, so in the end Walker’s goose is cooked.

Government isn’t the problem. The GOP and the conservatives are the problems in this country.

The people running this city have to be morons. They wasted a year and who knows how much taxpayer money trying to hire a police chief, which should have only taken a couple of months, and couldn’t get the job done. If I performed like that on my job, I would be out of work.

Who are all these folks the city manager says want an outsider for police chief? The people I know think we should promote from within.

“Separation of church and state” is a lie from the devil. It does not exist in the U.S. Constitution.

End state income tax on business owners so they can spend all that money to stimulate economic growth. But what happens if they don’t spend the money in Kansas? The money they spend in other states is money that would have been spent in Kansas. How can that be good for Kansas?

The state lawmakers’ No. 1 priority for the next session needs to be legislation that bans the use of all cellphones and electronic devices while operating any motorized vehicle.

I can’t understand why Republicans hate all kinds of education. If they wanted smarter people, they would legislate financial support for schools and universities, not tear them down and drive away educators. Kansas is going to be one dumb state in a couple of years.

Leonard Pitts showed his ignorance by blaming what happened at Sandy Hook on the NRA. If an armed NRA member had been at the school door, the outcome would have been much different. Blaming the NRA is about on the same level as blaming the church shootings on a flag.

It’s frustrating when you try to get information from the 24-hour weather channels during severe weather. One will have a sports game on or a guy jumping up and down wanting you to buy a car; the other has grown men running around in the woods or re-enactments of catastrophic events.

I think I finally found all those surly Republicans who obstruct the smooth operation of government with rude and uncivil behavior. They’re all hanging out here in Wichita, writing for Opinion Line.
