Stephanie won’t be alone in missing Cinda

The Sedgwick County Zoo without Cinda? If it’s hard to imagine, no wonder – the 43-year-old African elephant has been a fixture at the zoo and part of the childhoods of south-central Kansans for four decades. It was nice to know that her unexpected death on Wednesday followed a day of smashing pumpkins and painting pictures. The best way to honor Cinda and her surviving companion, Stephanie, is to contribute to the campaign for the $10.5 million Elephants of the Zambezi River Valley habitat, which will be the third-largest elephant exhibit in the United States and will engage the Sedgwick County Zoo in the fight to save African elephants from extinction. – Rhonda Holman
