Kellogg a case of justifiable mission creep

Amid the focus on how the revenue from the countywide 1 percent sales tax is distributed among the county and cities, consider this: The private-sector task force that put forth the sales tax idea in 1985 said its top priority for the roads-and-bridges half of the proceeds was “development of Kellogg as a limited access expressway from Ridge Road on the west to Woodlawn on the east,” according to an Eagle article at the time. Now, of course, the Kellogg freeway extends from Rock Road on the east to Maize Road on the west, with more construction anticipated eastward to K-96 and westward to 151st Street West. – Rhonda Holman
