Opinion Line (Sept. 20)

The more I read in the news, the more I think having an asteroid wipe us all out at once might actually be the kindest thing to happen to us in the long run.

Wednesday’s debate proved once again the almighty dollar comes first with Republicans. Environmental pollution be damned. Climate change be damned. Are they so ignorant they don’t realize survival of our planet is at stake? Or are they just lying deniers? Either should disqualify them for office.

Hey, all you believers in man-made global climate change who think carbon dioxide is a pollutant: Do us a favor and stop breathing.

How very ironic that the Republican debate was by far the highest-rated program ever on CNN, a Democrat propaganda network and mouthpiece for Obama.

Why would any sane voter be in favor of another socialist in the White House?

A student’s academic accomplishments come as the result of the efforts of all her or his previous teachers, so which one should get the merit pay?

The fact that only 40 percent of Kansas high school graduates are ready for college is a good thing. With the state’s dwindling support for higher education, most high school grads won’t be able to afford college. The governor’s lack of support for education isn’t as heartless as it seems.

The Kansas Supreme Court justices have brought the restructuring of the courts on themselves. If they would stick to interpreting the laws, not trying to write laws, people wouldn’t have become angry with them.

The state of Kansas might as well have gone to a casino and played roulette to finance the long-term KPERS debt instead of issuing bonds. At least they wouldn’t have had the carrying costs of commissions, 4.69 percent interest payments or $411-a-night hotel rooms.

Dear Sen. Jeff King and the Legislature: How’s that “non-risky’ investment of $1 billion of our tax dollars in the stock market working out for you?

Two new Kansas tourism slogans: “Brownback’s Kansas – too broke to mow the weeds.” And “Kansas – leading the race to the bottom.”

Leave it to Spirit AeroSystems and Onex, which have negatively affected this community for 10 years, to not be able to finish the deal for the fabrication sale. Plan B would be these jobs leaving town. Why Boeing sold this division has to be one of the great mysteries of all time.

What nerve of that mean old, self-serving, greedy capitalist Koch family to make a donation of land and money for a new Wichita Center for the Arts. Come on, all you liberal-minded success bashers – surely you can dream up some personal gain scheme that’s at the root of it.

More important than the arts center to be built at Rock and 13th is the use of a last tract of unspoiled land within Wichita for something other than commercial or residential use. Thanks, Kochs.
