Opinion Line (Sept. 18)

Regarding the county sales tax approved in 1985: Repeal it and replace it with a Wichita city tax. The county can do whatever it wishes, since the county commissioners seem to think that is the way to go, each person finding his own way.

Don’t worry, state correctional workers who are making $13.61 per hour. Soon the pay at McDonald’s will be $15 per hour and you can get a decent-paying job.

Law enforcement lives matter.

Europe’s immigration problem is not America’s problem, just as our southern border problem has not been a European concern.

Now that the Syrian refugees are flocking to Europe, it is amazing how fast some countries can close their borders. Yet the good ol’ USA can’t get its southern border closed after years of illegals coming across.

Thank you, Rep. Tim Huelskamp, for demonstrating that Republican anti-immigration rhetoric has nothing to do with coming into this country legally. It’s racism, it’s disgusting, and it is now on display for everyone to see.

Once again Huelskamp has proved with his comments regarding Syrian refugees that my nickname for him, “Foolscamp,” is closer to reality. This man is an embarrassment to Kansas and the Republican Party. Who votes for this guy?

I mean this as a serious question: Do we really want a President Donald Trump to have his finger on the nuclear trigger?

They say Trump can’t win with his immigration stance. I say if he forfeits the Hispanic vote he will pick up those Democratic voters who are tired of the issue never being addressed, except during the election cycle. He has my Democratic vote.

Hillary Clinton is possibly the most unqualified person to ever run for president. She is a disaster waiting to happen.

Patriot Day is a very solemn day for our nation. It is not a day for promotions and sales. It is a day to remember those who died on Sept. 11. Let’s keep it that way.

Shame on the Sporting News for not recognizing Perry Ellis in its preseason All-American team. Not only is he an incredible athlete, but he is an extraordinary young man. Wichita is proud of him.

I wish one of the networks would have a female host for late-night TV. The current male hosts are awful. I’m not a woman. It’s way past time for a change.

“I can’t.... I’m going to Winfield!”
