Opinion Line (Sept. 17)

Any number of things – pandemic, earthquake, another Katrina – could move us from civility to what could be called anarchy. Once that happens, a whole bunch of anti-gun folks are going to wish they had the means to protect themselves.

The Kansas GOP legislators are so inconsistent about small-government stances. When it comes to guns, they say the government should mind its own business. When it comes to abortion, gay marriage and birth control, they don’t mind government interference at all.

Bob Dole is blatantly wrong in supporting the current Eisenhower Memorial design. This memorial is nothing more than a monument to and for the designer, Frank Gehry. Trash the design and the designer, and let’s follow the family’s wishes.

Independence has lost Mercy Hospital, due in part to Gov. Sam Brownback’s refusal to accept millions in federal money to expand Medicaid coverage. Brownback’s anal-retentive policies have been endorsed by Independence-area politicians including Sen. Jeff King, Sen. Forrest Knox and Rep. Virgil Peck. Thanks, guys.

There seems to be a trend going around regarding most customer service people. Has anyone else noticed how nasty, mean-spirited, unprofessional, condescending and in-your-face they have become? This isn’t customer service, it’s abuse. Who’s in charge?

We are all getting so chubby that when you see skinny people you wonder if they are on drugs.
