Opinion Line (Sept. 15)

The mayor of Wichita wants more of the Sedgwick County sales tax. Although a majority of this tax is collected in Wichita, not all of it is contributed by the citizens of Wichita. Where does he think those of us living in unincorporated areas shop? Newton, here I come.


Why is it that this city spent millions of dollars to eliminate traffic lights on East Kellogg but now is intent upon putting them up all over West Kellogg? It gets worse every year.


I’m loving the bike lane extensions on First and Second streets. Encouraging healthy habits is a win-win for everyone. Thank you, city of Wichita.


When an incident occurs at a school, the staff’s primary responsibility is the safety of students. Notifying the parents is secondary, and once the police are involved the school is limited in what it can divulge. Constant inquiries by parents, other relatives and outsiders cannot and should not be answered.


If Hillary Clinton is convicted of a felony, she won’t be able to own a firearm. We should all rest a little easier knowing that.


President Obama has ended the practice of staying at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City because it is Chinese-owned. Wow, that is getting tough with the Chinese. Next thing you know he won’t read his fortune cookies.


It was President Reagan who unfroze billions of dollars in Iranian assets and lifted sanctions against Iran imposed by President Carter in 1979. If you want to blame anyone for letting Iran become the country that it is today, then you can certainly blame him, can’t you?


The unemployment rate is lower today than it was anytime during the Reagan administration. It’s Obama’s fault. No, wait – what?


Educated people tend to be more liberal-minded because they have been indoctrinated instead of educated. Uneducated people tend to be more conservative because they see the real world and not the fantasy world liberals long to live in.


A liberal is one who ignores published science on GMO foods while pushing for all to believe the opinion of a few “climate” scientists on global warming.


Kudos to the Rockford Township employees for mowing the ditches and providing improved road maintenance in the past month.


Has anyone else noticed how the local on-site TV reporters use the word “actually” in their reports? Why?


I asked my mom one time why she and dad always smooched on his way out the door to work. She said, “You never know, it might be the last time you get the chance.”
