Opinion Line (Sept. 12)
It’s an old cliche: “I will do it or die trying.” Unfortunately, more than 250,000 men, women and children have done just that, trying to escape to Europe from the Middle East. That amounts to about two-thirds of the population of greater Wichita. And we think we have problems.
Services and funds are continually cut for the poor, for children (our future), for schools, the elderly, the handicapped and the mentally ill. Yet we quickly justify running up huge debts for war.
Allowing the government to force businesses to inflate wages is, believe it or not, another step toward communism. More government telling us what to do is not how you get a better paycheck in America. A better job is.
What do you want to bet that the people who don’t like the Fair Tax idea are not paying any taxes now?
Shame on Sen. Jerry Moran for preaching that we should let the superrich out of paying income tax on their gargantuan income, forcing the rest of us to make up that lost revenue by paying 30 percent or more federal sales tax on everything we buy. Shun him.
If God didn’t create Adam and Steve, then there obviously is another creator.
If Donald Trump becomes the conservatives’ choice for 2016, for the Democrats it will be sugar plums dancing in their heads.
At $80,000 a year plus benefits to hand out marriage certificates, Kim Davis’ job should be put out for bid, not an elected job. I’d do it for $50,000 plus state benefits, and laugh all the way to the bank.
Why do you blame God for your sins? If you become a thief, why do you think it’s God’s fault? Accept your sinful nature and repent. We all sin. That is why we need to know what God did for us. His love is never-ending.
Have a vehicle with no muffler? How about a booming stereo so you can hear it over your vehicle with no muffler? And don’t forget a dog – the bigger, the noisier. Well, then come on out to Maize, the noisiest town in Sedgwick County.
Visiting the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit in Central Riverside Park is always an experience in parking. Trying to find a spot without a discarded used diaper is always a challenge. All are within 10 feet of a trash receptacle. I thought all pigs were at the zoo or a farm.
My son’s phone was stolen from him as he lay injured from a motorcycle accident in south Wichita so he was unable to call for help. What a heartless thing to do. Thank you to the unknown motorist who did come by and help.
