Opinion Line (Sept. 10)

About 850 people in the Wichita Police Department and not one qualified to be the new chief? How could this be?

Paying an additional 2 percent sales tax in a community improvement district is OK if I know about it. Republicans say I am responsible for my financial decisions. I want to be, but I need the information and business wants to hide it.

Do we really need pictures of bicycles on the road? Motorists and bicyclists have shared the road for decades. While visiting my son at KU, I saw them all over the roads there. Our liberals don’t want to be outdone by theirs. Stop spending our money on such foolish things.

Big thanks to the city officials who supported the new bike lanes on First and Second streets. I feel safer, both as a rider and as a driver, with these lanes clearly delineated.

The bike lanes on First and Second streets are awesome. The bike lanes help to keep both motorists and cyclists safe. Thanks, mayor and City Council, for supporting all modes of transportation in our community.

At the end of the school day, the Goddard school bus drivers must think the streets of the Deer Glen at Buckhead subdivision are a rally course. If the drivers don’t slow down, I may be forced to deploy my own spike strips.

I hear the Democratic National Committee is selling golf balls for its candidates. They are called “Entitleists.”

Anyone know how much the governor’s tax change has saved a couple of billionaires who do big business in Kansas?

Can someone explain why what the clerk in Kentucky is doing is any different from what Obama did by failing to enforce federal laws on immigration?

As we seem to see more and more people getting tattooed, it certainly gives credence to the adage, “If you want to go nowhere, follow the herd.”

Maybe the next “sculpture” that WSU installs should be a parking lot, so the students will really have something to enjoy.

We don’t need another fast-food hamburger joint at 21st and Amidon. What we want and need is a good old mom-and-pop sit-down restaurant that serves chicken and noodles and pot roast. Won’t someone bring back this American classic?
