Opinion Line (Oct. 30)

The sales tax increase that funded the Intrust Bank Arena a few years ago seemed fairly painless. We need the things the current proposal would fund a lot more than we needed the arena.

About every TV ad opposing the temporary 1 cent sales tax is nothing but lies. There is a detailed plan for it, and if you believe the lies on TV, you are clearly not qualified to vote. Do your own research and you will see the facts.

I find it highly insulting and offensive when anyone suggests that we all have to swallow a $400 million tax increase in order to have a water plan, repaired roads, public transportation or the ability to invite new business to town.

I am voting “no.” I have water and I have a job. Government officials gave Boeing big taxpayer freebies, and where is Boeing?

I am in favor of defeating this proposal and it being presented in individual ballot questions at the next election. I would then vote “yes” for the things I favor.

So Koch Industries takes millions in incentives in Oklahoma. But the Kochs fund a campaign here to prevent us from getting more jobs. I guess they already have jobs and don’t need to worry like the rest of us do.

I got a robocall from Pat Boone plugging his hit “Moody River” and urging me to vote for Pat Roberts. With regard to Roberts, more appropriate song titles to mention would be “The Great Pretender,” “With My Eyes Wide Open, I’m Dreaming” and “Ain’t That a Shame.”

Greg Orman is a very glib campaigner, but he surely knows Pat Roberts is not responsible for the increase in illegal immigration. Harry Reid has been in charge of the Senate for years and blocked House bills regarding border control and immigration. What lousy politics.

It is ironic that Americans for Prosperity is running ads criticizing Orman for being prosperous.

Be wary of those candidates endorsed by The Eagle, as they may be hazardous to your wallet.

Everyone who claims to be a Christian should read and heed Cal Thomas’ column on the Oct. 29 Opinion page. While you’re at it, read the Daily Prayer, too.

Go figure. The city waits until WSU basketball starts to tear up Hillside north of 21st Street and make it one lane each way. Why wasn’t this project done during the summer?
