Opponents of sales tax have big lead in poll

The gubernatorial, U.S. Senate and secretary of state races in Kansas are dead heats, according to the latest Survey USA poll, sponsored by KSN News. But Wichita’s proposed sales tax increase isn’t even close. Opponents of the tax are leading by a whopping 23 points, 59 to 36 percent. “Vote no” leads in every age, gender and race demographic category. The closest “vote yes” gets is 8 points down among ages 35-49. “Vote yes” also comes close among Democrats, trailing by only 2 points, but it trails by 30 points with Republicans and by 40 points with independents. – Phillip Brownlee
