$9 million spent to win $99,636-a-year job

People marvel at the millions spent to win the $400,000-a-year job of U.S. president. But the cost of the ongoing chase for the $99,636-a-year job of Kansas governor seems similarly out of proportion – an estimated $9 million for just the TV ads through Oct. 20, according to the Center for Public Integrity. Kansans comparatively undervalue the post, by the way, paying their CEO less than he’d get in all the states but Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, Arkansas and Maine. A Washington Post map put Maine’s $70,000 at the bottom, with Pennsylvania’s $187,818 at the top. – Rhonda Holman
