Opinion Line (Aug. 30)

The cleanup after Katrina was a prime example of government waste. Billions of dollars puked out all over. Then when they get miserable results, they say it is because they just need more money. Every day we see examples of massive government blunders and waste. Where is the end?

Michael Brown, director of FEMA under President Bush when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, wrote in Politico that “the American public needs to learn not to rely on the government to save them when a crisis hits.” No wonder Obama called it a “man-made disaster.”

Classified information has been sent too many times to count to private e-mails or insecure servers. Surely most people can see through the smoke. If you apply the law, apply it to all, not just Hillary Clinton.

Donald Trump has declared bankruptcy four times to get out of paying his bills. He will have no problem declaring Social Security bankrupt to get out of paying you.

Trump might be a good candidate if he actually knew anything about the big picture. Much like it scared me when Obama got in, I do not see this nut making it. Good for jobs, maybe, but he could get us into World War III with his stupidity.

Have you noticed how much Trump is like the Thenardiers in “Les Miserables”?

Thinking of Hillary Clinton as president makes about as much sense as the Land Rover wedding commercial.

Wow, for all the events Sen. Jerry Moran is having in our area, you almost would conclude he’s up for re-election and worried about getting Trumped.

Gov. Sam Brownback’s economic policies remind me of an old song about Lyndon Johnson during the Vietnam War that goes: “Waist deep in the Big Muddy and the big fool says to push on.”

Kris Kobach doesn’t want to “restrict voter access”; that’s just plain stupid. He and most Americans I know want to make sure only citizens are voting – although I’ll admit his not releasing records doesn’t look very good for him.

Has any elected official ever lost as many legal decisions as Kris Kobach?

Maybe some of our great Kansas “Christian” leaders who are so uncaring about the plight of illegal aliens from south of the border ought to go to Mexico or Central America for some self-education about what these people are fleeing. Might they develop some compassion?

I have been eating Oreo cookies all of my life. Upon finding out that Nabisco is closing the plant in Chicago to make them in Mexico, I am mailing my uneaten cookies back to the president of Nabisco. Lips that touch Oreos will never touch mine.

Developers should not be permitted new building licenses until all their tax responsibilities are paid in full.

I give God 10 percent. Why should I give my waiter more?
