Opinion Line Extra (Aug. 31)

The city is repainting bike lanes on First Street, yet the street is in disrepair. Fix the streets first and quit bowing to the bikers’ whining.

I saw a man run a red light at West Street and Kellogg Thursday morning. He was talking on his cellphone. Anyone talking on their cell phone or texting while driving is a potential murderer.

I see the city is behind in mowing again. Are they waiting for the last mow of the season, or blaming it on the rain we have gotten? Most homeowners keep up even when it rains. Why can’t our city?

So, another shooting. How do we stop the violence? Gun advocates: We’ve tried it your way for all these years. How’s it working? Not. Since your way has failed, why not try something else? How long will we be happy with killing 30,000 Americans each year with guns?

I think it was a tragedy about those two journalists who were gunned down while on the air. Makes me wonder: Where is the rhetoric and accusations from Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson? Oh, yeah – the victims were white and the assassin was black. Can anyone say “hypocritical”?

Donald Trump is the master of stabbing you low in the back with accusatory words, then immediately switching to pat you high on the back with complimentary ones.

This is the United States of America: We, and we alone, decide who gets to come in, and who gets to be a citizen, or not. It’s that simple. If you object, too bad; we have laws, and no one is above them.

Yep, we’ve rescued the French a couple of times. But anyone with a basic knowledge of our history should recall that the American Revolution would not have succeeded without the French. Remember that the next time you’re eating your “freedom fries.”

Nabisco is moving jobs to Mexico, costing 600 jobs. Airplanes are also made in Mexico, which costs Wichita many good-paying jobs. When will Congress stop this job transfer in the name of capitalism? When it really is a bigger bonus for upper management. I guess I won’t be buying Oreos.

A friend of mine said that voting laws discourage voting like driver’s licenses discourage driving. One is a right and the other is a privilege. I don’t want anyone driving who can’t pass the driver’s exam.

Babies don’t want to be born if they’re not going to be cared for.

NBC should retire the show name “The Biggest Loser.” Obviously, that title will now forever be linked to Subway’s Jared Fogle.

Why, in a city the size of Wichita, is there apparently only one store where I can find and purchase a weekly news magazine?
