Opinion Line Extra (Aug. 28)
The problems of the two-party system are that the donkey’s nightmare is the elephant’s dream, one party does not trust the other party, and then they ask us to join in on their arguments.
The Kansas Democratic Party has nothing on the Republicans. The KDP is so far left that its chairman, Larry Meeker, was forced to walk the gangplank for big-tent notions like fiscal conservatism and indifference toward gay and abortion rights.
News flash: Voter ID laws actually protect your vote. When an unregistered vote is cast, it cancels out a qualified vote. I don’t know about you, but if I exercise my privilege to vote, I want it to be counted.
How ironic that Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who always campaigns hard against voter fraud, now works to deny a statistical audit of his own operation on the same exact subject. It appears he is afraid voter fraud will be discovered under his very nose of operation.
I avoid reading anything about Kris Kobach and Sam Brownback anymore. They’re both of an ilk that can destroy a democracy, but nobody seems to care.
To those of you who have concerns about jobs in America: Consider whether to stop eating Oreos, as the company is moving a plant to Mexico.
If anyone thinks that Donald Trump is not hurting the Republican Party with his remarks about Hispanics, then I have a moon rock I want to sell them, because apparently that is where they are, on the surface of the moon.
Columnist Davis Merritt’s comment that Donald Trump’s popularity “says more about us than about him” is on the right track but going in the wrong direction. Hillary Clinton is responsible for Trump’s growing popularity, not the public.
We all know a definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result. So, are you dissatisfied with the current state of American education? For that, you may thank liberal policies. They don’t work. What’s it going to take to change?
To the person who called former President Carter “an incompetent buffoon”: Nice, real nice. Do you feel better now?
Someone complained about “hateful” columnist Cal Thomas. I think his recent kind words for Carter, a staunch liberal, should make that person feel a bit ashamed (March 26 Opinion). Conversely, Leonard Pitts wouldn’t praise a conservative if he gave him a kidney.
According to Charles Bukowski, “The problem with the world is that intelligent people are full of doubts while the stupid ones are full of confidence.” That’s a pretty apt description of Opinion Line, especially the online commentary.
What do you say – how do you get through to somebody who is outside blatantly wasting water by watering plants after we just received 2 1/2 inches of rain?
