Opinion Line (Aug. 23)

If the prisoners in Guantanamo Bay are transferred to Fort Leavenworth, I can hear a jihadist begin to sing: “Kansas City, here I come.”

I fail to understand why Pat Roberts and our governor are having a hissy fit over the possibility of a few Guantanamo detainees being transferred to the military prison at Leavenworth but are proud to keep BTK and the Carr brothers close to Wichita.

Isn’t Obama about overdue for another “phony scandal”?

If Donald Trump wins the election, Canada is going to build a fence and expect the U.S. to pay for it.

Tell me – can we build a wall to keep jobs in?

All of the followers of “the Donald” are like lemmings following their leader off the cliff.

Next time (assuming there is one) let’s elect some politicians who can add and subtract.

If presidents were judged on what they did after they left office, Jimmy Carter would be the greatest president who ever lived. No president has come close to being the humanitarian Carter is. Guess who will have the greatest reward in heaven?

I’m sick of the city leaders trying to rationalize why delinquent taxes can’t or shouldn’t be collected. Why should the taxpayers who pay their taxes be on the hook for these folks, especially the developers? Pay up front when taxes are due or have the city foreclose.

I’m one who owes back taxes on “specials.” They crammed an unneeded project down my throat and added $20,000 in taxes for the privilege. I’ve been billed and paid more in “special” taxes than I gave for my house. The county can shove it and wait.

I’m glad to hear that Wichita police officers are getting body cameras. Now, when will all Sedgwick County sheriff’s officers have them?

Kudos to Wichita for hiring disabled police officers. I observed one parking in a handicapped space at QuikTrip, getting refreshment.

I don’t understand the concern over cuts in public health. Obamacare provides health care for everyone.

Will the Brownback administration ever run out of excuses for the state’s poor economic performance?

If business owners had to start paying state income tax they would just raise the price on their goods. We, the consumers, would pay taxes for them. Use your heads.

If Gov. Sam Brownback is serious about the Kansas economy, he will create a bunch of jobs, put some hardworking women back to work, and give the Wichita economy a shot of adrenaline by pardoning all those involved in the fiasco at Jezebel’s.

Don’t bring in refugees to USD 259 and you won’t need to ask for $1 million from the taxpayers.

WSU president John Bardo is now concerned about fall enrollment numbers being low. Hmm, I wonder if a paucity of convenient parking spots and the prodigious amount of stealth fee increases have anything to do with it.

Dogs make sense. Humans do not.
