Drivers will need to be patient along East Kellogg

The dignitaries wielding shovels were all smiles Thursday, signaling the happy advancement of the Kellogg freeway project in the area of the Kansas Turnpike exit, Webb and Greenwich. Both the construction and the completion will be good for the economy. But if it’s a relief to see this pricy feat of engineering and political will finally move ahead after estimates necessitated a redesign, the project guarantees uncertainty and aggravation for commuters and neighboring businesses for several years. Congratulations are due the public officials and engineers involved, but drivers will need to cultivate patience. While they sit in traffic, they can imagine how nice it will be in the 2020s to drive 60 mph on Kellogg from one edge of Wichita to the other. – Rhonda Holman
