Spirit’s first 737 Max fuselage a thing of beauty, pride

Congratulations to Spirit AeroSystems on its completion of the first fuselage for the 737 Max, the latest advancement of what has been the single-aisle workhorse of U.S. commercial aviation since 1968. Boeing already has more than 2,800 orders from 58 customers worldwide for the more fuel-efficient 737 Max, which will be assembled in Renton, Wash., and tested next year before entering service in 2017. Thursday’s celebration of the gleaming green fuselage was great confirmation that Boeing Wichita may be no more, but Wichita’s skilled aviation workforce remains integral to Boeing thanks to Spirit. – Rhonda Holman
