Opinion Line (Aug. 7)

The broad implementation of the $50-per-credit-hour program fee recently sprung on WSU students further shows the lack of fiscal restraint and discipline of the university officials. The fees and tuition costs have been spiraling out of control with no end in sight.

Bad move, WSU. The students are the reason you are there, and you add costs for engineering and health-related majors? The dream, for many, just died. The teacher-student ratio is 1-to-50 in engineering, and you expect students to pay more fees? Will the fees change that ratio this fall?

The definition of an optimist is a guy pulling a boat in western Kansas.

Irresponsible hunters such as Walter Palmer definitely deserve hefty fines, serious jail time and no gun possession for life. R.I.P., Cecil.

Given the headline “Spirit sees lower revenue, higher profits,” Richard Ranzau’s criticism of Spirit AeroSystems asking taxpayer funding to train more workers for it was appropriate. As a Teddy Roosevelt Republican, I consider corporate welfare, especially for big corporations, much more insidious than individuals receiving assistance for personal misfortunes.

Spirit should have plenty of money for training its own people. It laid off a bunch of the older people with years of experience when it took over from Boeing. It wants us to pay for training? It is known around my neighborhood as “evil Spirit.”

So if I shoot a buck and I only have tags for a doe, can I claim the buck really wasn’t a buck? Maybe he was born with the physical attributes of a male, yet on the inside he’d always known he was female. Will the game wardens buy it?

The Bible says giants are not good people. Let’s do all we can to prevent giants from getting married.

Can’t tell the difference between a Democrat and a socialist? Funny, I can’t tell the difference between a libertarian and an anarchist or a conservative and a Confederate.

It’s great to see Eric Berry cancer-free.
