It was no surprise that members of the Kansas congressional delegation reacted strongly to President Obama’s release this week of his Clean Power Plan. Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita, blasted the plan as “a mess of excessive regulations built on shaky legal ground and driven by climate change activists whose views are not based on science.” Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., expressed concern that Kansas would be especially affected by the new rules because nearly two-thirds of its electricity production comes from coal. Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., said in a statement: “By forcing states to transition to more expensive and less reliable forms of energy, this administration and the unelected regulators at EPA continue to make doing business in America less attractive.” – Phillip Brownlee
