Opinion Line (Oct. 19)
People typically indifferent to the poor are now using them to convince us the 1-cent sales tax for five years would be a hardship. If we vote “no,” everyone’s water rates could increase 52 percent for perpetuity. In many homes, that would be a worse budget hit.
They wouldn’t let us vote individually on items. They are trying to shove the job thing down our throats. Water, streets, transportation are OK. Not jobs; that is cronyism.
I’ve been around for nearly 70 years now, and I can tell you that one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen was Pat Roberts’ performance during his final U.S. Senate debate with Greg Orman.
Thanks to KSN for the well-moderated Orman-Roberts debate. However, if I had participated in the drinking game where I took a shot every time Roberts mentioned Harry Reid or President Obama, I would have been stupid drunk.
Each candidate was asked to say something positive about his opponent. Orman went first and his remarks were warm, gracious and generous. Roberts’ comments were rude, sarcastic and demeaning. These exchanges were revealing indeed about the character of these two men.
Do you have buyer’s remorse over voting for Barack Obama? Voting for Greg Orman would make you hurt all over again.
Bill Clinton: “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.” President Obama: “We will prevent an (Ebola) outbreak from happening here.” Greg Orman: “I’m an independent running for the U.S. Senate.” If you believe any of this, your brain is seriously short of gigabytes.
Roberts says: “Vote for me and I will block every move made by the Obama administration for the next two years.” I hear: “Vote for me and I promise to continue gridlock as usual in Washington.” Really, Senator? No thanks.
Once again the most important question wasn’t asked in the debate: Are you going to vote to let Kansas take over Medicare, as Gov. Sam Brownback is planning to do?
No Kansas Republican has expressed any interest in running Medicare via the health care compact. This is only a Democrat scare tactic. However, Obamacrats are poised to turn Medicare inside out with health care rationing through the ACA.
An ad funded by the teachers union claims that dropping test scores are Brownback’s fault. Aren’t they the teachers?
Brownback claims his tenure reform rewards good teachers. How would being subject to dismissal at any time without even being given a reason be considered a “reward”? Thanks to his “reform,” teachers can now be removed for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of their teaching.
Brownback is taking credit for successes he had nothing to do with and trying to convince us that his failures are actually successes.
Kansas strip club owners never had it so good. First Paul Davis patronizes them, then Sam Brownback cuts their taxes.
