Kansas serves as warning to other states

Kansas was again cited as a warning for other states considering income tax cuts. William G. Gale, co-director of the left-leaning Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, noted how tax cuts in Kansas caused major budget problems and failed to produce significant job growth. “States have no good reasons to believe that tax cuts will bring the desired manna,” he wrote. “Yet they continue to erode their tax bases in the name of business growth during an era in which few states can afford to cut critical services ranging from education to infrastructure repair.” He warned that states follow the tax cut path “at their own peril.” – Phillip Brownlee
