Poll averages show razor-close statewide races

Washburn University political science professor Bob Beatty compiled an average of the various polls this year on statewide races. The results show razor-close races for governor and U.S. Senate. In 16 polls conducted by five different firms, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Paul Davis leads Gov. Sam Brownback by an average of 1 point, 42.9 to 41.9 percent. In seven polls by four firms, independent Senate candidate Greg Orman leads Sen. Pat Roberts by an average margin of 2.8 points, 45 to 42.2 percent. Secretary of State Kris Kobach leads Democrat Jean Schodorf by an average of 2.78 points in 10 polls by three firms, 45.26 to 42.48 percent. – Phillip Brownlee
