The Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce is urging the Sedgwick County Commission to restore some of the funding cuts proposed for its budget next fiscal year. The chamber supports leaving the property tax rate as it is currently and reducing the amount budgeted for cash-funded roads to $2 million. In a special alert e-mail sent out last week, the chamber said that these budget changes would free up $1.29 million, plus about $512,000 from the property tax, “allowing a reallocation of funds toward economic development, culture and recreation, health and human services and city budgets.” – Phillip Brownlee
