Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita, and Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., were named “distinguished pols of the week” for uncovering two side agreements on the Iran nuclear deal, one of which concerned the International Atomic Energy Agency’s access to Iran’s military sites. Jennifer Rubin, who writes a conservative blog for the Washington Post, praised the lawmakers for “bringing these issues to light, forcing the administration to be more forthcoming and (reminding) the public and Congress how grossly insufficient is the verification system in the deal.” The lawmakers learned of the agreements while meeting recently with the IAEA in Vienna. A U.S. State Department spokesman dismissed GOP claims of “secret deals,” saying that “these kinds of technical arrangements with the IAEA are a matter of standard practice.” – Phillip Brownlee
