Opinion Line (July 26)

Kansas should be proud of Rep. Mike Pompeo’s work with Sen. Tom Cotton in uncovering the hidden agreements in the Iran deal. Their trip to Vienna made a huge impact on the hearings.

Would it take something as horrific as an Islamic jihadist shooting up his daughters’ school for Obama to acknowledge that Islamic terrorists are here and have long-range plans to increase their assaults? He cannot allow himself to utter the words “Islam” and “terrorist” in the same sentence.

Looking at the armed folks in front of the recruitment offices, I think: Are we in Tel Aviv? If they had been standing there when I visited my Army recruiter in ’75, I never would have walked in. Install bulletproof glass and metal detectors, and send these NRA nuts home.

Reading or listening to reports about mass shootings in this country has become boring, because the issue of the reckless proliferation of guns is seldom mentioned.

The majority of those carrying guns would wet themselves if something really did happen, such as a shooting at a movie theater.

Liberal thinking – another reason why I carry a gun.

Confederate battle flag? Now let’s get rid of John Brown’s portrait in our Kansas Capitol. Brown is considered America’s first terrorist. Abraham Lincoln said he was “insane.” He attempted to start a bloody slave revolution. He was hanged for treason.

When something in your refrigerator goes bad, you throw it out. We need to do the same thing with the GOP leadership in Topeka in the next two election cycles. There is no leadership yet to undo the mess they created.

Please, Kansas politicians, stop comparing the situation of the Kansas state budget to that of an average family. What family purposely cuts its income and then is surprised that it doesn’t have the money to cover its bills?

Our delusional governor thinks astronauts are lining up to teach high school science classes for $38,000 a year. Gee, maybe the astronaut will sponsor the model rocket club, be sophomore class sponsor and cheerleader coach, too. Our teacher shortages are solved: Hire astronauts.

Gov. Sam Brownback and Ken Willard see no harm in having non-teacher-certified experts in their fields teach your child (July 22 Opinion). By logical extension, a hooker could teach sex ed and human anatomy. Am I right, guys?

If we are so morally decadent that we no longer see any difference between harvesting organs of a person who has died and those of an unborn child who is intentionally killed, there is little hope left for humanity.

I want to thank our county leaders. Finally we have somebody who will look out for what’s good for the community.

Did County Commissioners Richard Ranzau, Karl Peterjohn and Jim Howell pay for their homes and cars in cash? If not, they are not living within their means. They’re also hypocrites.
