The U.S. Justice Department is still investigating complaints about waiting lists for disability services in Kansas, the Kansas Health Institute News Service reported. The department began investigating the waiting lists in 2012 as a possible violation of the civil rights of Kansans with disabilities. Since then, the Brownback administration has made significant progress reducing the waiting lists. However, advocates for the disabled complain that much of the reduction is because bureaucratic hurdles are causing some to drop off the lists – not because more people are receiving services. – Phillip Brownlee
