Opinion Line Extra (July 22)

The dictionary describes a “hero” as a man of great courage. That sure describes John McCain. I only hope the newer dictionaries describe a hero as a person of great courage.

Donald Trump tells it like it is? Many assertions of fact this wealth-addicted billionaire made when announcing his candidacy were found to be wrong by FactCheck.org. And isn’t McCain a hero not for being captured but for surviving long captivity?

I don’t care what Trump says about McCain. It’s true that McCain deserves respect for what he endured during the time he was in the service, but that doesn’t give him a pass for his political activities since then.

Evidently Trump doesn’t consider anyone a hero if they are captured. I wonder if that applies to being a hero only if you are not wounded.

Does anyone really believe that Trump will ever win the presidency? I don’t think he has any intention of winning even the nomination, let alone the office. He’s doing this for publicity. And the media are gleefully giving him exactly what he’s after.

Once again Trump is accurate and truthful, because anyone who says McCain is a hero simply because he was captured by an enemy believes Bowe Bergdahl is a hero for the same reason. And the only one I know of who says that is the treasonous Obama.

In 1962, the USA took prayer out of schools. Since that time, our great country has only gone downhill. Most if not all great civilizations collapsed after about 200 years. If we don’t want that to happen to us, we better start getting this country turned back to God.

I recently saw that eggs in Wichita were over four bucks. Meanwhile, my brother-in-law in Florida was paying his usual 99 cents a dozen. And he said he had never heard of bird flu. Maybe the chickens are mad at Gov. Sam Brownback, too.

The Kansas Lottery sent Brownback a check for $155 million for fiscal 2015. The state gets to keep a pretty good amount of that for the general fund. Is he going to send that check back so the anti-gambling crowd won’t be disappointed in him? Yeah, right.

The baggage service at our new Eisenhower Airport is very disappointing. Waiting 40 minutes for your luggage is ridiculous and a poor welcome to visitors.

So Bill Snyder gets a new contract for almost $15 million, tuition goes up, and everybody is happy. Tell me again how much a college professor makes? What is the value of an education?

Why doesn’t the WSU band ever play “Seven Nation Army”? After all, he’s “going to Wichita” to “work the straw.”

I wish Terminix would exterminate itself and Liberty Mutual insurance. We wouldn’t have anymore TV ads.
