Opinion Line (July 22)

Interesting philosophy dreamed up by the gang-of-three Sedgwick County commissioners: cash only. Sounds great, if you are living in the 19th century. If you agree with them, and you did not pay cash for your car and house, then you are just as delusional as they are.

The county will enter into contracts, but don’t expect it to abide by them.

The County Commission is making severe cuts to services that affect so many people to save $1.37 a year on property taxes on a $100,000 house? Where is the common sense? I guess it left with former County Manager Bill Buchanan.

County commissioners have demonstrated insensibility, irresponsibility and arrogance in even proposing such draconian, negative budget changes without thorough collaboration and vetting with stakeholders. In one horrible event, commissioners seek to destroy two decades of professionally managed work by county employees for county residents.

Part of the Iran nuclear arms deal was that the U.S. would send billions of dollars to Iran, which will use it to support world terrorist organizations. Knowing that, can anyone feel good about paying their taxes now?

I’ll believe in man-made climate change when Greenland is green again and wine grapes can be grown where the Vikings once cultivated them. Even then it’s probably just natural climate variability.

For people dropping off or picking up travelers, Wichita’s new air terminal has fewer seats than the old one, and no amenities. Why did they spend so much on a downgraded facility? And why the expensive TV commercials trying to make it look good?
