Happy birthday wishes to Wichita, which has grown from 1,000 residents to more than 386,500 in its 145 years of life. Kansas’ most populous city has a vivid, proud history, using its pioneering spirit as fuel to become planemaker to the world and an entrepreneurial hub. Locals should get to know and appreciate it better, including by visiting Old Cowtown Museum, the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum and other sites with fascinating stories to tell. A video on Kansas.com narrated by Eagle historian Beccy Tanner is a fine primer. Wichita’s attractive city flag is getting more deserved display and notice these days, including its own Twitter account. It’s not too early to start brainstorming for what deserves to be a major 150th birthday party in 2020. – Rhonda Holman
