Opinion Line Extra (Oct. 15)

Successful businesses didn’t get that way by squandering their money, so it should come as no surprise that they expect something in return for large political donations – thus the buying of elected officials. Think how nice it would be if there were no PACs and if donations were severely limited.


Republicans collect taxes so they can build bridges and highways, educate children and build a strong national defense.


If the GOP does not win the Senate majority in November, are the Republicans still going to act as obstructionists?


If you believe a thing this corrupt government says about Ebola here on our soil, you might already have a fever or are sick in the head.


A 21-day quarantine should be mandatory for anyone returning from any South African country. That is little enough inconvenience to guard against Ebola and ensure the health and safety of our country.

Here is a perfect comeback for Gov. Sam Brownback about his tax cuts not seeing immediate results: “I have always said it was going to take time. Just look at Obamacare. It took a full year for it to become a huge success.”


Why is it when the courts use the law and precedence in arriving at a decision that they are vilified by many as being corrupt?


I just want to thank Rep. Mike Pompeo and his staff for all of their hard work helping me get treated at the VA. Good people.


The city of Wichita reports that it really does need the sales tax increase. Sure, city officials support its passage. Ever see a politician who didn’t want more of your tax dollars? At least Goddard is going to reduce property taxes with its new sales tax.


Pay disparity is dangerous to our stability. If 70 percent of our economy runs on the daily purchases people make but they earn so little they can’t buy anything, then we’ll all suffer, including the 1 percent whose businesses disappear when their customers can no longer afford what they sell.


Gasoline is $2.95 a gallon? It only has to drop another $1.05 to be what it was when President Bush left office and took his invisible “oil buddies” with him.


The hiring and firing of football coaches at KU is a joke. Hire a coach and fire a coach and pay him millions. Then raise tuition. What a way to run education.
