Opinion Line (July 20)

Mexico can’t keep its people confined to its borders. What made anyone think it could keep the largest drug kingpin behind bars?

Obama just released 46 drug dealers from prison because he thought their sentences were too long. I guess he knows more than the 46 judges who sentenced them. It’s scary how much damage he can do to this country in the next year and a half.

Conservatives have such short memories they don’t remember it was President Obama and a Democratic Congress that pulled our economy out of the Bush depression.

We are having floods, fires, etc. When are we going to receive aid from other countries?

If the man who shot the nine African-American people in the church in South Carolina also had been African-American, would the Confederate flags still be coming down?

It’s time that churches and everyone stand up and say “no” to flying the Confederate flag and what it stands for. The South will not rise again. That cause failed because it was doomed to fail. How can anyone defend it?

Thanks to the Supreme Court, my mother-in-law is considering marrying her sister. They are not gay and don’t live together. But if they marry, one will get the Social Security benefits of the other until she dies. Many elderly people may be considering the same option.

When a woman miscarries, it is said that “she lost the baby.” When the mother deliberately terminates her pregnancy by abortion, it’s a destruction of fetal material. When will this abomination end?

I wonder if Gov. Sam Brownback’s executive order will protect those of us with minority faiths – you know, Jediism and the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Who gets to decide what a valid “deeply held religious belief” is?

Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s latest effort is pushing Congress to pass the health care compact the Legislature passed last year. The compact seeks to undo the ACA and takes Medicare with it. This would put Medicare dollars in Brownback’s and the Legislature’s hands to steal.

The shame of Kansas. You can actually drown while traveling on the turnpike between El Dorado and Emporia. How many years will this madness continue?

A watch that people can use to play games and surf the Internet. As if they need any more reason to goof off and not do their jobs, and to be oblivious to everything going on around them.
