Opinion Line (Oct. 14)

Is it just my imagination, or are the people supporting Gov. Sam Brownback’s income tax reductions the same people supporting the Wichita sales tax increase? I’m confused.

There is a reason it is called checks and balances: One party comes in and writes checks for all the entitlements, and the next party comes in and balances the budget. We don’t need another governor like the one Brownback replaced, so we have to cut excess spending again.

Tea party Republicans love to collect taxpayer money so they can burn it uselessly in court. Democrats collect taxes so they can build roads, bridges, educate children and help take care of the poor.

Paul Davis has lined up the usual suspects: the teachers union, the Fraternal Order of Police, the “you pay for my pills and abortion” crowd, and, of course, the standard menagerie of lazy malcontents, welfare victims, convicts and druggies. Don’t be fooled. This man is all politics, no thoughtful reason.

The FOP is a union. Is it any surprise that it would support a Democrat? It should poll officers to see whom they really support. I don’t think it’s Davis.

The pro-Brownback ads about the strip club are packed with grossly misleading statements and are an insult to the intelligence of Kansans. If a candidate professes to be honest but lies to achieve his objectives, he deserves no one’s vote.

I want to know how every Kansas political candidate feels about Kansas taking over Medicare.

If we cared as much about our neighbors as we do ourselves, our state would be enriched with connections deep enough to cure social and economic discrimination, fix our deteriorating educational and health systems, provide the poor with public assistance, and incentivize those with dreams that could change the world.

I can remember when people were encouraged to get out and vote.

There is one thing women’s bodies can shut down, and it’s the Republican Party. Vote this election as if your life and rights depended on it. They do.

Only good can come from securing our borders. Nothing bad.

Senior citizens: Invite someone you trust to examine your utility bills, especially telephone, to determine if all charges are proper. Look for long distance and directory assistance you did not use. Report any fraud to law enforcement.

The thing that’s so likable about the Royals is that they’re so doggone likable.
