Opinion Line (July 12)

Kansans spend millions of dollars, maybe tens of millions, vacationing at lakes in neighboring states. Why aren’t more Kansas lakes developed with hotels, marinas and housing developments? Kansans dream of greater tourism, yet their lakes are largely fallow.

To those who want to refer to Wichita’s new library as the “Advanced Learning Center”: I suggest you spend more time in a library.

News of the existence of sanctuary cities in the U.S. was eye-opening. Illegal immigrant law offenders are safe and immune from prosecution or extradition while living there. Why would any municipal leader or politician encourage exemption for such law offenders, drug cartels, etc.? Follow the money.

The Pentagon is spending $1.5 trillion on the F-35 fighter jet, which may never see combat. But Republicans insist on cutting food stamps because that’s a waste of money.

Should we be happy that Pat Roberts supports the current Eisenhower Memorial design? I think not. The Eisenhower family is adamantly opposed to this design. You would think our senators would have the decency to support the family.

Barack Obama is the Jimmy Carter of the 21st century.

I’m starting an office pool for anyone who would like to join. What date will we surpass our first $20 million in aid to Cuba ? I’ve got Aug. 15, 2015.

The very benevolent North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered the execution of a farmer for failure to get lobsters to breed. If death follows failure, I would not want to be his barber.

The Eagle published the amount it has cost the taxpayers to fight same-sex marriage in Kansas ($100,000). Now how about telling us what it has cost taxpayers for school districts to sue the state for more money?

For once, Gov. Sam Brownback got it right. You can be gay all you want, but your rights are not more important than mine. Please don’t force your parades, your opinion and your sexuality choice on everyone around. Thanks for standing up for what apparently is the straight minority, Brownback.

Brownback should not be allowed to waste one penny of taxpayer dollars fighting against what is now the law of the land.

Refusing service because of your religious belief is not following the teachings of Christ as written in the New Testament but trying to live in the Old Testament.

South Carolina’s governor is a leader. Ours is a lemming.

Now that Wichita has a spot open in the flag pavilion in its Veterans Memorial Park, I suggest filling it with the Christian flag.

When are South Carolina’s and Wichita’s governments going to take down the U.S. flag? There is a small number of people who hate it, just as there is a small number of people who hate the Confederate flag.

Eagle Opinion Line: Where parishioners of the Church of the Perpetually Offended come to sing their hymns of hyperbole, demagoguery and ignorance. Amazing disgrace.
