Poor people spend every dollar they make on food, shelter and clothing. So an increase in sales tax directly affects how much they are able to purchase. Take away the buying potential of 90 percent of the populace, and the economy will slow down.
I have always been proud of the accomplishments of Koch Industries and taken complaints of the media and Democrats in Washington with a grain of salt. But after seeing how Koch is pushing the “no” vote on the sales tax, I wonder if the portrayals have a modicum of truth.
Proponents of tax and utility rate hikes in Wichita always remark that they are only a few dollars more. Never mind we are already being crushed by taxes and utility costs of thousands of dollars per year.
I might vote for the new sales tax if some of the money was used to upgrade the seats at the Orpheum. I enjoyed a great concert there recently but have decided against future events because of the seats. They make an airline seat feel like a recliner.
I will vote for Kansas legislators who pledge to stop sales tax on groceries. I am middle class and fed up with paying sales tax on groceries. Kansas loves to tax the poor and middle class to support the lifestyle of the wealthy.
The sun is shining in Kansas, except when you sneak around in the middle of the night passing bad legislation that hurts teachers.
Vote for Pat Roberts. Greg Orman is the cause of crop circles.
I just returned from a Kansas Honor Flight trip that used Southwest Airlines to and from Baltimore. The personnel at Southwest went way out of their way to make our trip memorable. Whatever it is costing Wichita and Sedgwick County to keep Southwest is well worth it.
With our health care system in an unsustainable state, why would Wesley Medical Center launch a massive advertising campaign about using the emergency department for things as trivial as a “rash on Rock Road”? Health care leaders in our city should be looking for innovative solutions to problems.
Stop “profiling” and “police brutality” now. Obey the commands of police officers.
The zombie apocalypse is here in Wichita. The zombies are the cash register clerks at most business establishments, especially fast-food restaurants. You will easily recognize them by their unique style of making change – bills wrong side up, upside down, crumpled, occasionally with a grunt of gratitude.
