Opinion Line Extra (July 8)
My west Wichita neighborhood was a war zone for the week before the Fourth and much worse on the Fourth, with illegal fireworks going off all around. If illegal fireworks aren’t being sold around here, where do they come from?
I will be anxious to see how many illegal fireworks were confiscated and folks fined. I called in three different locations at 6 p.m. and never saw one police car respond; so much for a special phone line. The bombs finally stopped at 3 a.m.
What kind of inconsiderate fool shoots fireworks loud enough to wake the dead at 2:30 a.m. on July 4? It gets more ridiculous every year. Am I less patriotic than this moron?
Is it rich folks who don’t shoot fireworks, or is it people who don’t shoot fireworks become rich?
Maine repealed a 1949 law banning fireworks, reasoning the industry would create jobs and generate revenue. One person was killed and several injured, plus dogs, babies and soldiers with PTSD suffered. Profit is always No. 1.

Why do opponents of same-sex marriage quote only Leviticus in the Old Testament when St. Paul, in the New Testament, writes so much about it?
Why do people insist on comparing slavery under the Confederate flag to the American flag? Yes, it existed under both, but one represents a country that bettered itself in creating equality for all. The other is a flag of treason, during an attempt to destroy the country we have today.
States’ rights is a bogus argument based on notion that the United States is a collection of independent states. However, only a handful of states started out as sovereign entities. Most, including Kansas and many Southern states, were carved out of land purchased by the United States.
Those who start their opinions with “your president” must be foreigners, so don’t publish their opinions.
I never dreamed I would say this, but I honestly believe I would vote for Donald Trump if the election were held tomorrow. He may be the best and only anti-politic candidate we will find in the ever growing list of 2016 hopefuls.
Trump 2016. We need someone who will speak the truth and do something about it.
All this talk about deporting illegal immigrants has me really concerned. Imagine an America where the only Mexican food offerings are Taco Bell and whatever the huckster Donald Trump tries to sell us.
