Brownback leads with younger voters, trails with older

AP

Gov. Sam Brownback continues to poll best with younger voters. The latest KSN News poll, conducted by SurveyUSA, has Brownback leading Democratic gubernatorial candidate Paul Davis 49 to 32 percent among likely voters ages 18-34. Earlier polls also had him leading in this age group. That goes against conventional political wisdom, which would expect less support for Brownback among younger voters because of his conservative stances on social issues, such as his strong opposition to same-sex marriage (which younger voters overwhelmingly support). The challenge for Brownback is that he trails Davis in every other age category by double digits – and overall by 5 points. Also, these older voters are the most likely to vote. – Phillip Brownlee
