Opinion Line (Oct. 10)

Smoking pot is OK in some states. Gay marriage is OK in some states. Prostitution is OK in Nevada. But do they have to be OK in every state?

I am tired of the argument that states’ rights should be absolute when it comes to gay marriage and discrimination against minorities. Equality in civil rights cannot and should not be left to the states. This same lame argument was used to justify slavery in the South.

Courts are one branch of government. Even if the other two branches agree with the ruling, surely the people’s elected representatives have to pass enabling legislation to authorize same-sex marriage, and the governor has to sign it. Otherwise, it remains the court’s opinion.

The difference between Sam Brownback and a scientist is that the scientist will admit when his experiment has failed.

Never before, on stage, screen or TV, has an actress portrayed anguish, misery and pain better than poor “Becky” from Topeka.

Poor, pathetic “Becky,” who wants us to vote for “Sam,” does not understand that state services must be paid for somehow. Which services is she willing to give up?

I am watching Brownback take credit for what is happening at WSU after cutting its budget.

Ending Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s term is far more critical to America’s future than questions about where Sen. Pat Roberts slept last night.

Reid is a conservative man from a conservative state, and a Mormon on top of everything else, so why vilify him?

The Republicans seem to know what Greg Orman will do. Have they read his palm?

Callers to a call center often asked me where we were located. “Kansas” was met with silence, then a low, mournful “Ooooohhh,” as though we were the armpit of the nation. If Orman tips the scale to the Democrats, we will be the butt of the nation.

Interviewing the police relative to racial profiling is comparable to asking the fox caught in the henhouse, “Did you come after the chickens?”

Ben Carson is a true Reagan conservative who is committed to the Constitution, has solutions to our debt crisis, and will end Obamacare and bring harmony to our nation. Run, Ben, run.

I am rooting for the Royals to beat the Cardinals in the World Series. And maybe an umpire can make a suspect call that goes the Royals’ way. Party likes it’s 1985. Go, Royals.
