Opinion Line (July 3)

July 1 is here. Thanks, Gov. Sam Brownback. I can walk alone at night again, go to events and carry without a permit.

Someone needs to remind Brownback and his legislators that the federal and state governments are composed of three equal components. If lawmakers would thoroughly review laws to make sure they are constitutionally sound, the state courts wouldn’t have to put them in their place.

Kansas students have no need to study the Dark Ages. They’re living in them.

No public-paid scholarships for private schools. You choose to send your child there – you pay.

Will Wal-Mart, Dillons and Hy-Vee close their grocery stores in Kansas since they can’t sell liquor? It worked for Uber.

Looking at Scott Walker, Bobby Jindal and Chris Christie, it’s evident that the most qualified presidential candidate must be a governor who has ruined his state’s economy. I’m surprised that Sam Brownback isn’t running.

Donald Trump – the voice of racism.

Donald Trump is right. I hope he wins in 2016.

I still have not seen Donald Trump’s birth certificate.

Now more than ever we need to be united under one flag – Old Glory – as we take down the Confederate one to put it in museums with hoods, nooses, chains and other objects of our pathetic past.

I’m offended by the LGBT flag, as are many other Americans. The people’s White House should not have been lit up with rainbow colors, because it was an in-your-face display of disrespect to me personally as a taxpayer.

The gay-pride rainbow flag does not fly over the state Capitol. It does not promote discrimination against any group. Rather, it promotes inclusion and acceptance. Fundamental differences from the Confederate flag.

Why do we need representatives and senators in Washington? Most new laws come from executive orders from the president, and now we have the Supreme Court getting into the action. They don’t seem to listen to the people, and look at the money that could be saved.

Notice it’s only conservatives who scream about activist judges when they lose, yet the Bush v. Gore decision picking a president was the most activist of all time.

I love a proper fireworks display, but individual use is out of control. The pollution, the debris, the potential for injury and destruction of private property aren’t worth the risk. But, hey, what better way to celebrate your country’s independence that by blowing up a little piece of it, right?
