Opinion Line Extra (July 2)

Many conservatives don’t understand why Pope Francis would weigh in on climate change and the damage we’re doing to the Earth. He should have put it in simpler terms they can understand. The message is: Don’t poop where you eat.

You can be proud to be an American. You can proud to be a Kansan. You also can be proud to be a Republican, but you can’t do all three at the same time.

I don’t understand why the members of the Republican majority in both houses of the Kansas Legislature didn’t just override the governor’s threatened veto to rescind the tax break given to small businesses. They seemed to know better, and yet didn’t act.

Does anyone else wish that Gov. Sam Brownback would please sit down and shut up, but most of all just go away? He could take all the Legislature with him. Don’t forget to take the D.C. group, too.

Maybe I’m racist, maybe I’m not. That’s my business, not yours or the government’s. On the other hand, you are perfectly free to not associate with me, or to even ostracize me. Fine. But don’t tell me how I’m supposed to think or conduct my life.

The main trouble with fireworks is not on July 4 itself. It’s the days before and after. The only thing these people are concerned with are themselves. They don’t even care about how the noises that go on and on affect their own pets.

Why should I pay taxes for empty buses driving around the city just so that we can have them available for conventions? The city bus system has been in the losing money for years. Any other private business would have closed the doors years ago.

The Nomar area’s disbanded committee got parking it wanted after it got the Nomar market it wanted. Be thorough and diligently select what you nag for, then live with it despite your own careless preliminary planning oversights.

If the kid zooming up and down Hyacinth doing 70-80 mph on the crotch rocket to and from I-235 lives long enough, I’ll turn him in. He only has one speed and that’s wide open.
