Opinion Line (June 30)

Justice Anthony Kennedy and Chief Justice John Roberts join a growing list of disastrous Republican appointments to the Supreme Court. Democrats don’t have this problem. Their appointees are immovable from the party line, regardless of the law.

Republicans waste time and money trying to repeal a program that is helping millions of people, and they wonder why people don’t vote for them.

Many think President Obama’s policies, accomplishments, goals, beliefs, etc., are poisonous to the country, but that does not at all mean they are racist.

Obama: Don’t quit your day job. You can’t sing. Worst rendition of “Amazing Grace” ever.

So since gay marriage isn’t going to affect anyone but those who want to marry, I trust there will be no further reports of people losing their businesses or jobs due to their refusal to approve of gay marriage, right?

I am offended by the rainbow LGBT flag just as some people are offended by the flag of the Confederacy. Both should be removed.

The Confederate flag, like a dozen others, is part of our country’s history. It belongs in museums and Civil War memorials. Any other display is just an inflammatory act of defiance, the losers raising a middle finger to the winners.

Wal-Mart, Amazon and others stopped selling the Confederate flag to make their hearts feel better. If they would stop selling the black racist CDs and videos rapping about violence against women and killing cops, my heart would feel better.

It’s great how major retailers in this country have decided not to sell Confederate flag merchandise. We all know that the right place to buy this stuff is at truck stops and swap meets.

Deep South politicians are demonstrating the courage to call for eliminating the Confederate battle flag. It’s time for USD 259, my fellow North High graduates and others of goodwill to show the courage to stop using a racist slur for a team name.

If I could set Wichita’s annual budget, it would make our City Council members squall louder than a nursery full of infants. And stop the insane spending of our tax dollars on things that are not absolutely needed at this time.

So “if you receive government assistance you should not be able to vote”? Don’t you dare mess with my Social Security and Medicare.

We all have government assistance when we drive on a paved road, take FDA-approved medicines, educate our children, see a weather report, and don’t have airplanes colliding over our heads. Think you can take care of all that yourself?
