Opinion Line (Oct. 8)

When will conservatives, from Gov. Sam Brownback and Attorney General Derek Schmidt on down, concede that marriage equality is a matter of civil rights, not voter preference?

If one has a right to marry any other person, then logically one also has the right to marry as many of those other persons as one likes. This is where the Democrats have us. No laws can be against it, because the Supreme Court will find them also unfair.

If the word “marriage” is the sticking point, stop calling it marriage. For tax and other legal purposes, the feds should require that a straight or gay couple get a civil license. Leave marriage, with its moral and religious connotations, to churches to recognize or not.

The CDC reports that less than 1.6 percent of adults self-identify as gay or lesbian. The amazing revolution is dominating the media and the business world. Why does such a small minority seem so large and so influential?

I am really upset I can’t blame Barack Obama or Harry Reid for Ebola.

Obama’s plan: Leave the southern border open and hope ISIS doesn’t enter in. Send our troops to Africa and hope they don’t die from Ebola. Take all guns away from the public and hope no one needs to defend themselves. Are we sitting ducks or what?

It is telling that Pat Roberts is so out of touch that he thinks the average Kansas Republican voter has a clue who Harry Reid is.

Who would want a has-been and loser like Sarah Palin campaigning for you?

Palin said incorrectly that the White House was at 1400 Pennsylvania Ave. I wonder if Roberts could supply the correct Kansas address where his recliner sits.

Why is it so difficult for Kansans to demand that Greg Orman clearly state his positions on Obamacare, gun control, immigration or any other issue? Why is it so difficult for Orman to answer those questions? If he won’t answer, should we take a chance and vote for him?

Go Wichita needs to be gone. Using taxpayer funds to hire a California marketing company and then refusing to tell us how much it is paying – a marketing company with a bad website and disconnected phone? It saw Go Wichita coming.

So politics may be decisive, but can we all get along and say, “Go, Royals”?
