Opinion Line Extra (June 29)

Why anyone who is not a billionaire would vote Republican is one of the great mysteries of our time.

Obama will have no legacy except being the first black president. His actions as president have been deplorable. I nominate him for the worst president in my seven-decade-long lifetime. Jimmy Carter even did better.

The group that wants the Confederate flag removed from veterans park is spitting on the memory of every soldier of the Confederacy. I’m sure they’re too ignorant to know the Confederate States of America came very close several times to winning the Civil War.

I am always bewildered when a presidential contender tells me that the U.S. Supreme Court “got it wrong.” Not that they disagreed, or that they wished it would have been decided another way. No. Got it wrong.

Guns have saturated buyers, which is why Colt is bankrupt. Other gun makers will follow, which explains why they depend so much on the NRA and the gun lobby. However, simple economics will put most out of business.

If I failed to do my job, as the Legislature recently did, I would be fired. Absolutely none of them, from either party, deserves to be re-elected.

If Gov. Sam Brownback considers our largest state tax increase a tax cut, by the same logic, if the Legislature had taxed small businesses $100 each a year, that also would be a tax break compared with three years ago and a much easier fix to our state.

Brownback is a true snake oil salesman. Unfortunately, too many Kansans are willing to buy his toxic medicine, no matter how sick it makes them.

Kansas continues to be Robin Hood in reverse – take from the poor to give to the wealthy. What’s next? Making it illegal to be poor? Deporting the poor to Oklahoma or Missouri to save on welfare and Medicaid costs?

Does anybody think the state will sell enough cigarettes, at 50 cents more per pack, to generate $40 million a year? People in Kansas City will drive to Missouri, and people close to Oklahoma will go there to buy their cigarettes. They must be smoking something other than cigarettes in Topeka.

The WSU police chief said, “We don’t have a parking problem; we’ve got a walking problem.” While there may be parking spaces available somewhere, when you leave work at 5:15 trying to make a 5:30 class, you can’t walk 1.5 miles from the parking lot and be on time.

What’s wrong with the present $10 bill? Don’t we have better things to worry about?

The movie “Dope” showing at the Warren East and West is pure filth. It makes us wonder why the rating and review in The Eagle are so misleading. It should be rated XXX.
