Opinion Line (June 27)

I need a license to fish, hunt and drive, but all I need to buy a lethal weapon is money.

It’s way past time to reinstate the ban on assault weapons that never should have been allowed to expire. Ban handguns while we’re at it. The flood of guns to every Tom, Dick and Harry has been the downfall of this country.

I’m 100 percent sure that those who are rabidly anti-gun have never once had to defend their life from someone trying to do them harm.

Removing the Confederate flag in South Carolina and singing “Kumbaya” doesn’t address gun and video violence, mental illness, or the obsession of anyone under 30 with being famous on Facebook and Twitter.

Of course Obama and Hillary Clinton blame the shootings in Charleston on the availability of guns. If Dylann Roof had walked into that church with a suicide vest on and killed dozens more, what would they blame that on? The availability of explosives?

Long ago, when I was a kid, I had the naive idea that the world would get better, even through my lifetime. I was wrong.

If you steal from a nursing home resident or the elderly, if you harm either in any way, know that there is a special place in hell waiting for you.

I hope all the Kansas Republicans are proud of how the Legislature transferred the cost of the tax cuts for business owners to the poorest of the poor in this state. And then the governor has the grapes to say it is not a tax increase.

Only an uninformed or inexperienced pilot would fly a “glide path to zero.” A real aviator always has a Plan B in the event Plan A doesn’t work, and then has the courage to make that change. He isn’t too stubborn to “wave off” and try again.

The year is 2000 and 15 one-hundredths? Since when did “and” cease to indicate a fractional part? Correctly pronounced, 2015 is “two thousand fifteen,” not “2,000 and 15.” Let’s get it right. You, too, pros.
