Role reversal: Republicans attacking rich businessman
Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., and his backers are combing through independent candidate Greg Orman’s business background in search of campaign fodder – particularly after a new NBC-Marist poll showing Orman leading by 10 percentage points. Though Orman has been a remarkably successful entrepreneur and investor, not all his business ventures have succeeded. He also has been involved in multiple court battles, has business and personal ties to a person convicted of securities fraud, and has an investment in a private equity fund that is incorporated in the Cayman Islands. But Orman campaign manager Jim Jonas told Politico they aren’t worried about the scrutiny: “We’re happy to compare Greg’s successful record as a businessman creating jobs with Sen. Roberts’ failed record as a Washington politician any day.” – Phillip Brownlee
