Opinion Line Extra (June 26)
I have come to the conclusion when a politician tells you that you have nothing to worry about, you better get worried.
I understand the use of the Confederate flag for memorials and re-enactments. If you think the Confederate flag is just a symbol of states’ rights, then do you think the swastika is just a Tibetan good luck charm?
To allow Southerners to vote on whether their states should allow display of secessionist symbols would be similar to permitting guilty prisoners to vote for freedom.
White folks killed many Native Americans under the American flag, so should we get a new flag?
The left was quick to call the mass murderer in Charleston, S.C., a right-winger. This was left-wing projection. The left was historically the home of slavery and segregation, and today champions the bigotry known as affirmative action.
So the head of the Office of Personnel Management stated that the hacking of federal employees’ personal information was not the fault of anyone except the hackers. Really? Another example of no accountability by federal agencies.
Ironically, working as a federal government employee means never having to say you’re sorry, including the man at the top.
Brian Williams lied about being in a helicopter forced down by enemy fire. He got caught, apologized and lost his job. Hillary Clinton lied about landing in Bosnia under sniper fire, got caught but never apologized, kept her job and is running for president. She is the best Democrats have to offer?
The pope said that abortion is causing climate change. Remember, you environmentalists have embraced everything the pope says.
Just because you’re a veteran, that does not give you the right to impose your will on others, or to be a bully or jerk.
Bleeding Kansas, 1854-61. Bleeding Kansas redux, 2015?
If no lawmakers in Topeka had been paid past the 90-day mark of the session, they would have made the decisions quickly. It should hit their pocketbook.
The largest tax hike in Kansas history just raised your taxes so that the rich can continue to pay no taxes. Remember that it wasn’t just Gov. Sam Brownback. Lawmakers such as Rep. Dan Hawkins and Sen. Les Donovan are also guilty as sin. Elections matter. Please begin to vote wisely.
Brownback’s stated objective: Transfer taxes to a consumption tax to be mostly paid by middle-class and low-income citizens. First, reduce taxes on the wealthy to an unsustainable level, creating revenue crisis. Second, wear legislators down in extended session to deal with crisis. Third, legislative approval of consumption tax. More to come.
If Opinion Line would require at least an IQ of 60 to comment, it would sure eliminate a lot of mind-boggling, stupid statements.
