Opinion Line Extra (June 25)

So the Federal Communications Commission is going to regulate robocalls. Good luck. Why hasn’t the FCC cracked down on loud TV commercials, since this law has been in effect since 2010?

If all it takes to “steal one’s identity” and cause all sorts of problems is your Social Security number and birth date, then the banking laws need to be tightened up considerably. A few years ago, some Kansans had both on their driver’s licenses.

A contributor suggested to a mail carrier bothered by vicious dogs that Kansas has open carry. It would be my assessment that shooting the dog will incur greater wrath from dog lovers than he would care to experience.

Strange purple blobs, otherwise known as California sea hares, have been washing on shore near Oakland, Calif. Officials do not know where they are coming from but have declared them eligible for food stamps. It is California after all.

A $1 million-extra legislative session, a teary governor and – surprise! – the largest tax hike in Kansas history where I pay for the tax breaks for the businesses that haven’t created jobs.

Welcome to the Socialist Republic of Brownbackistan, where every citizen now subsidizes small-business owners through higher sales and property taxes. Socialism at its best, brought to us by a Republican regime.

Thanks, state government. “Buy local” goes out the door now with the huge sales tax increase. I’m going to buy everything online I possibly can. This will really help Kansas jobs. Good going.

One of the tax changes in Kansas grants Christmas tree farmers a tax cut worth about $40,000. Don’t our great Kansas legislators know that they are now called holiday trees?

When Seattle raised its minimum wage to $15 an hour, critics said it would kill jobs. So why did its unemployment rate just plummet to 3.3 percent, the lowest in seven years?

Why is the airport throwing money away advertising? I didn’t know it had any competition, unless it’s booking a flight on the Dreamlifter at Jabara. The pro-name-change loons said that with the name change, business would pour in. So why advertise? Could they have been wrong or lying?

OK, Eagle – who is paying the editorial cartoonist named Bennett? McClatchy or the Democratic National Committee?
