The Kansas City Royals’ rise in the postseason should be an inspiration to us all. It shows that with the right motivation and drive, we are capable of overcoming our circumstance. This doesn’t just apply in sports but also in life. You can make lemonade out of rocks.
So the convention and visitors bureau can receive public funds but doesn’t have to reveal contract information or document how those monies are used? Is this what we can expect if the sales tax passes and we pour several more million dollars into the black hole of job growth promotion?
I would gladly pay an extra 1 cent sales tax if it would go to bringing back train service. Building developers shopping centers and decorating the underpass on Douglas don’t inspire me to pay more.
It’s nice that a morning Breathalyzer test is not mandatory at places of employment, but positive cannabis testing could trace back from last weekend. Hire the cannabis user. The hungover employee will cost you more in efficiency.

I want to keep my Medicare as it is, so I am not voting for Gov. Sam Brownback next month. The health care compact is dangerous for us seniors, and we can’t trust Brownback and his buddies.
Hey, Paul Davis and Greg Orman: President Obama says his policies are on the ballot this November. You are his policies personified.
Lots of talk about how Kris Kobach is playing politics. Not much about the sneaky trick the Democrats pulled when the national party convinced their man to drop out so the odds of defeating Sen. Pat Roberts skyrocketed. I’m pretty sure Orman is a Democrat in a see-through disguise.
Why do all you Republicans care who’s running on the other side of the Senate race this year? Oh, it’s because you’re afraid, very, very afraid.
It’s not that Democrats want higher taxes, but Democrats accept the fact that taxes are necessary for a functional society and are willing to pay for the privilege of living in one.
Conservatives love government. But like ice cream and any number of other treats, a large dose makes you fat and sick. A tiny dose is delightful and appreciated.
