Opinion Line Extra (June 24)
I sure hope the Olympic committee reinstates barrel jumping as an Olympic event before I die.
The American taxpayer, with the assistance of government officials, bailed out some auto companies. When they reorganized, hourly workers received massive cuts in pay and benefits. Some manufacturing went out of the country, with pay $5 an hour. You could say the car companies bit the hand of those who fed them.
I’d like to make a song request for the next choreographed fireworks show in Wichita: “For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)” by AC/DC.
Street repairs in Wichita are a joke. They “repaired” the streets in my neighborhood last year. The street in front of my house is already buckling and crumbling. Try calling the city. They eventually cruise by in a truck, look at the issue from inside the truck and drive away.
Isn’t it amazing that way back in the year 400 B.C., Plato had figured this out? “One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.”
I got a letter from the Republican National Committee wanting money. Doesn’t it know I live in Kansas? We have no money. It goes to pay for Gov. Sam Brownback’s folly. No more GOP for me. After 60 years, I’m done. Our elected Republicans didn’t have the guts to stop him.
Rep. Mark Hutton’s June 18 commentary blamed moderate Republicans and the Democrats for failing to engineer a more sensible tax bill. He failed to account for the fact that Brownback promised to veto any such bill. Place the blame where it belongs: Brownback and the GOP majority.
When the governor of Nebraska threatened to veto the elimination of the death penalty, the Nebraska Legislature passed it anyway and overrode his veto. When the governor of Kansas threatens to veto action that would rescind the business income tax cuts, the majority of Kansas legislators roll over and play dead.
Can’t we get the Brownback bashing in Opinion Line down to one or two comments and not five or six? It’s getting really, really old.
This lousy “hate Obama” column makes me want to puke. Anymore, the only things worth reading in this paper are the Richard Crowson cartoons and commentary by Phillip Brownlee, Rhonda Holman and Davis Merritt.
President Obama’s crony-corporatist free-trade deal subordinates American jobs to globalist demands. NBC News reports that two-thirds of Americans, Democrats and Republicans alike, oppose the deal. Must be something in the water in Washington when Congress votes against American jobs.
Obama uses the N-word without repercussions and wastes our precious resources flying to California just to play golf. His list of accomplishments keeps growing by leaps and bounds.
