Opinion Line (June 24)

Congratulations to Spirit AeroSystems for accomplishing what it has. It is because of the many good machinists Spirit employs. Remember, though, that the senior machinists who were there when Spirit was formed took a large pay cut and will not see a raise for at least 15 years.

The 10-year anniversary of Spirit may be cause for celebration for the folks who run it, but it was a day of mourning for the people who lost their jobs or who got to stay but had their pay cut by 10 percent, insurance payments raised and pensions frozen.

Yes, congratulations to Spirit for 10 years. We are glad you are in Wichita. However, it was intensely wrong for Wichita to lose Boeing.

If the police could give a ticket to every vehicle speeding in the work zone on I-135 between Wichita and Park City, the state’s money problems would be over.

Why was Obama interviewed on a low-audience garage-format podcast throwing the N-word out? Is that the class level he thinks we expect out of our government leaders now?

“JEB!” equals “Just Elect Bernie!”

If Obama and Hillary Clinton fought with as much zeal and enthusiasm to disarm criminals, ISIS and rogue nations as they do the NRA and law-abiding, taxpaying citizens, imagine how much better off the world would be.

While in a restaurant I saw someone come in openly carrying a firearm, and do you know what happened? Nothing. No O.K. Corral-type shoot-out, no firing it into the air like in some Third World country. They didn’t even pull it from the holster and point it at anyone.

I want to thank the goofball individual I saw open-carrying in Augusta Saturday night. I felt a little safer knowing he would be the first target of anyone intent on shooting up the carnival.

I guess it has nothing to do with green algae. But have you smelled Fall River Lake lately? It is bad enough to make you gag.

All network television needs to do to show the British Open golf tournament on television is to show a rerun of the 2015 U.S. Open. No one will know the difference.

Rich guys. Playing golf for a living. Complaining about the condition of a golf course. Wish that was my problem.
